![]() ![]() "We looked at the things that people were already doing, and just made it a little bit easier for them. is why we made decided to make improvements in that area. "The scale of that interaction with the campaign was just a beautiful surprise to us and we knew that was something we wanted to double down on. People were even sending DMs to each other with all these nice messages because of Wrapped. And you also saw the fans telling the artists how they got them through tough times in the year. You could just see conversations where smaller artists were tweeting at their heroes and talking about how they aspire to one-day get comparable Wrapped figures, or to reach a similar point in their career. ![]() "For example, in that first year, we noticed that these really beautiful interactions were happening organically between artists and their fanbases on social media. Elaborating upon this, Codey said: "Generally speaking, there's kind of this internal attitude that we're always trying to look at what we're doing well, and what could be improved upon. The overhauled Artist Wrapped that Codey and his team introduced was comparable to the one that you might see today (with aesthetically pleasing share cards), but it would undergo further refinements over time. It maybe took 24 hours to gain, because no one was expecting it, but then it just blew up." "We didn't really know what was going to happen, right? We had no idea that it would grow into this global phenomenon. Spotify How Spotify's Artist Wrapped EvolvedĪccording to Codey, the team were not prepared for just how enthusiastic the response to that first Artist Wrapped campaign ended up being. Spotify French singer Poupie has been streamed 19.4 million times in 2021, in 169 different countries. Spotify British singer Griff has had 27.9 million listeners on Spotify in 2021. James Blake has been listened to for a cumulative 15.2 million hours in 2021. We were just looking for a way to try and increase the app's profile, and Creator Wrapped was the idea we came up with." It had been renamed and there was generally super-low awareness about the tools it offered to creators. Recalling this, Codey said: "At the time, Spotify for Artists was barely out of its beta stage. That was until Brendan Codey (who is now the Associate Director for Creator Growth and Programs for the streaming platform) was brought on board to revamp the entire campaign. In fact, it started off as little more than a basic email roundup that was sent to those with a huge Spotify presence. Yet Artist Wrapped was not always quite so exciting and dynamic. To find out more about its implications for those in the music industry, check out our exclusive interview with fledgling pop star Mazie. Spotify The Humble Origins of Artist WrappedĪrtist Wrapped has become an invaluable tool for some creators, as it provides them with information that would previously have been inaccessible (especially if they don't have the resources of a major record label) and gives them an opportunity to identify and thank their biggest fans. Spotify Rapper Central Cee has been streamed 433.7 million times on Spotify in 2021. Spotify Dominican rapper Tokischa has been streamed in 175 countries. Phoebe Bridgers has been streamed 409.3 million times, for a total of 24.4 million hours of music in 2021. Some examples of these share cards, including the ones for Phoebe Bridgers, Japanese Breakfast, Willow and James Blake can be seen here. They can then choose to publish this information (via a "share card") and engage on a more personal level with their loyal followers. With Artist Wrapped, musicians can see things like their cumulative streaming figures from the past year, what their core demographics look like, where they are most popular geographically, and who their top listeners were. However, there is one big difference, as this version of the roundup is only intended for use by creators themselves. If you are not familiar with it, Artist Wrapped is not too dissimilar from its consumer equivalent, in the sense that it provides unique analytics and data that is based on Spotify activity from between January 1 and October 31. ![]() Although it's not quite as famous as the regular iteration ( which provide users with insights into their own listening habits and musical tastes), it is still a pretty big deal. To explain just how far it has come, the project's lead, Brendan Codey, spoke to Newsweek in an exclusive interview.įor a bit of context, Spotify for Artists has its own version of the annual Wrapped feature. ![]() Now in its sixth year, Spotify's "Artist Wrapped" campaign has grown exponentially since it debuted back in 2017, to the point where it now attracts 14 times the number of listeners it once did. ![]()

You can touch it up with cooler blues for a wide range of cerulean- and manganese-like hues.īut those lovely grays that cerulean produces with dull reds are classic old-school watercolor staples, and for them, I’d say WN’s is best.Mythrill, no probs. The hues have no such problems, being based on pthalo blue.Ĭobalt turquoise has become a much more common pigment since the demise of manganese and it’s greener still, with nice granulation. (I use Lukas these days.)īut it may be that the very distinctiveness of real manganese would make it less desirable than the hue versions for folks who had never grown to love the real thing, which is basically a unique substance, like Cobalt violet i.e., their behavior, tinting strength and granulation are so quirky, they don’t mix easily with others. I’m huge fan of real Manganese and tried both WN and DS manganese Hues they’re nice paints, but no comparison to real manganese which has such a distinctive behavior. Genuine manganese is quite a bit greener and even more dramatically granulating than cerulean. To my eye, only the WN and Quiller cerulean swatches look and act like classic blue-greenish cerulean. Here’s a previous post on cerulean with some swatches depicted. I do have their genuine cobalt blue that I bought some time ago and I can’t see myself living without it! Peter: I’ve seen cotman’s genuine cerulean blue and I’ve been hesitant to buy it because it isn’t artist’s grade. Would WN manganese blue hue be a good manganese blue to you, or a genuine manganese blue? I’ve heard alot about MGraham’s paint and I see them all the time at Blick and they do look to be really cost effective. Virgil: I see cerulean blue suggested all the time in the many books that I’ve read so I’ve been wanting to give a real cerulean blue a shot. I do have a few American Journey paints and after some months they all seem to be leaking out gum arabic all the time no matter how much I clean them and tighten their caps, this is a deal breaker for me because I do travel with my supplies and from what I’ve read the air pressure on a plane makes tubes leak if they’re not tightly screwed.Ĭharelstonecain: I see DaVinci’s paint all the time at my local DaVinci’s near school, its starting to look tempting now! Rui: I’ve been eyeing manganese blue for a while now, it really does look like a blue version of opera.īob: I was thinking that too but it seems like not all cerulean blues are made out to be the same. Seems like alot has happened on this thread while I was fast asleep! And my apologies for placing this topic in the wrong forum, I wasn’t too sure about where to place it since I saw topics about color choices here and in palette talk. Let us know which Cerulean you settle on and how you like it. And I love the granulation one gets in larger wash areas. It can work for shadows on certain illuminated colors. ![]() But it works wonderfully for me for skies, distant land forms in the background, and shady objects. I find it to be just a tad greener, however, than Cerulean. ![]() I use it regularly and love what it does. I’d second the suggestioin by Rui about Manganese Blue. The difference, if any, would be in the pigment type and binders used by each manufacturer. As for permenancy, lightfastness and pigment load, they are all artist quality and good paints. W&N and Dan Smith are two other good sources. If I wanted a paint with a “moist” feel to it for ease in application, I’d probably try M. If I were looking, I’d first try DaVinci or CJ, at least a 15ml tube. ![]() I generally don’t use Cerulean, since it’s opaque, but it is a lovely color, preferred by many painters. The colors in DaVinci and American Journey are not exactly the same, so one could shop both paint lines to look for desired colros. ![]() The only other manufacturer that I know of, that makes 37ml tubes in the U.S., is Winsor & Newton, but their prices are generally higher than DV and CJ. that DaVinci and American Journey from Cheap Joe’s, in the 37ml tube, give the best value, ie, losest cost per ml of paint. Microsoft Outlook is built to sync with Microsoft 365 and Exchange calendars. Adding appointments is quick using the mouse or keyboard shortcuts, and there's a built-in weather forecast above your appointments. To the right are your appointments, which you can view in a day, week, month, or schedule view. In the left panel, there's the monthly view for the current and upcoming month, above a list of the currently open calendars. The calendar pane of Outlook is quite feature complete, if a little retro-feeling at times. You can also easily set up appointments with co-workers, if your organization uses Exchange calendar sharing. This tight integration among apps lets you do things like respond to any email with a meeting invite, which will automatically populate your calendar. This application combines your email, calendar, contact management, and task list all in one interface, and the calendar is one of the four panes that make up the program. Microsoft Outlook needs no introduction-it's been part of Microsoft Office since the '90s. This should be the first app you check out if you're looking for a dedicated Windows calendar. This is more difficult than you'd think with most apps. And another nice perk, if you're a paper person, is the option to print your calendars, complete with all appointments. You can also set up the Windows lock screen to show upcoming appointments. This means the vast majority of people should be able to sync events from their phone without any issues (though I wish there were also support for iCal and CalDAV).Ī unique feature here is the ability to add sports, TV, and international holiday calendars in just a couple of clicks. The really nice thing, though, is that you can add a lot of calendars: the app supports, Office 365, Google, Yahoo, and iCloud calendars. It's all pretty standard, but it's easy to get used to. Adding appointments is quick, too, using the mouse by highlighting the appropriate time or by using the keyboard shortcut Ctrl + N. To the right, you can look at your calendar using a day, week, month, or year view. There's a left-hand sidebar with a monthly calendar, for reference, above a list of all your currently active calendars. Windows comes with a built-in calendar app-and it's a pretty good one. Based on that experience, here are the four apps I think work best for Windows users. ![]() I attempted to connect them to my personal and work calendars, spent time adding appointments, and left them on for a while so I could get a feel for what using them day-to-day is like. It's a thin market, but I considered and tested a dozen Windows calendar apps. Ideally, there should also be a way to sync with Google, Apple, and Microsoft accounts, along with advanced options for CalDAV and iCal. It's not enough for your calendar to only work locally: at the very least, it needs to sync with your phone. There should be optional notifications when an event is about to start. ![]() Ideally this should be possible using only keyboard shortcuts. Adding appointments should be as quick and as simple as possible. For some, this will mean a week view for others, it's an agenda of the day's appointments-the best apps offer flexibility.
